Ans Westra: Private Journeys/Public Signposts

1h 12m Documentary 2006

Luit Bieringa’s debut film turns the camera on photographer Ans Westra. Since the 1950s, Westra, a Dutch Emigree, has captured New Zealand life in a series of iconic images. Her work explores New Zealand’s social change, particularly that of Māori as they moved into cities and away from their traditional way of life.

The film explores her life and work in her own words with added commentary from friends, family, fellow photographers and admirers of her work.
