Kombi Nation

1h 28m Comedy, Reality 2003

**Directed **: Grant Lahood
Written by: Grant Lahood, Gentiene Lupi, Loren Horsley and Genevieve McClean

The ‘OE’ is a quintessential Kiwi experience, a right of passage. Kombi Nation follows a group of three girls as they head off on their OE. What they don’t know, is that a documentary crew will follow them as they tour Europe in a VW Kombi van.

Things don’t start off well, with the van costing far more than they anticipated. Reluctantly, they let Scott, another London-based Kiwi buy in with them. Tensions immediately arise with Scott joining the group. He wants to ‘shag’ all the girls, but is that all he wants?

Shot guerrilla style, and largely improvised, the actors do a great job of staying in character while they interact with members of the public in campgrounds and bars. Exuberant, natural and true-to-life, this is low-budget filmmaking at its best.
