Out of work logger, Don Mitchell, along with two friends, turn to breaking in wild horses as a source of income. With the help of an experienced horse-catching team, the rough ex-loggers learn to respect the delicate balance between the wild horses and their catchers.

But the harmony of their lives is shattered.

Park Rangers and deer hunters believe the horses are becoming a menace, disturbing the deer and making them hard to shoot. A professional exterminator is hired to kill the horses and events move quickly into violent confrontation. In an atmosphere charged with deception and double-dealing, the tension builds to an explosive climax.
