Why is NZ Film On Demand closing?
As viewing options for New Zealand films have evolved, NZFC has decided the time is right to retire NZ Film On Demand. New Zealand Films will continue to be available to rent online through NZ On Screen.
When will NZ Film On Demand close?
NZ Film On Demand will close on Sunday 29 November 2026.
After this date, the platform will no longer be available.
Can I still rent films before the closure date?
Yes. Films can continue to be rented until Saturday 28 November 2026.
What happens if I have already rented a film?
If you have rented a film before the closure date, you will be able to watch it until the platform closure.
We encourage viewers to start and complete their viewing before the platform closes.
What happens to films I purchased or rented in the past?
As per our terms and conditions purchased content is only available while the NZ Film On Demand Service is available. Once NZ Film On Demand closes, viewing access through the platform will no longer be available.
Can I download films before the site closes?
No. NZ Film On Demand films are available via streaming only and cannot be downloaded for permanent viewing.
Where can I watch New Zealand films online after NZ Film On Demand closes?
We encourage audiences to visit NZ On Screen.
Will all NZ Film On Demand titles be available on NZ On Screen?
No. NZ On Screen and NZ Film On Demand are separate services with different rights agreements. While NZ On Screen has an extensive collection of New Zealand films, not all titles previously available on NZ Film On Demand are available there. New films are added to NZ On Screen every week.
